What are the CBD oils?
CBD refers to cannabidiol, a non-intoxicating extract from cannabis. It contains CBD mixed with what is called an inert carrier oil, a substance that has no scent and is usually used to dilute essential oils.
What are the effects of CBD oils?
Since its introduction in our market, CBD oils have been believed to affect your body in the same way as marijuana does. This includes treating pain, reducing anxiety, curing seizures and heart problems, and even stimulating the appetite. Consequently, there has been a growing number of studying and research about CBD oils and their health benefits.
Finally, in 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the medical use of a CBD oral solution known as Epidiolex as a part of the treatment for specific forms of epilepsy in children.
In which way do CBD oils benefit my health?
Unlike THC (a shorter name the tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD has a very low affinity with the cannabinoid receptors in your brain. As a consequence, it does not have any psychoactive properties. In other words, you cannot get “high” by using CBD.
However, CBD oils seem to be able to influence other receptors in your body, including opioid receptors. These are responsible for regulating pain and are strictly linked to your glycine receptors, the same that are involved in the serotonin. You may have already heard of it as the “feel-good” hormone.
What are the health benefits of CBD oils?
Supporters of CBD oils advocate that these products can treat a vast range of health problems, including chronic pain, anxiety, acne and high blood pressure.
Not all these alleged benefits are supported by medical research. However, one may advocate that CBD oils are still an under-researched subject and that there’s no harm in trying. On the other hand, some of the benefits of CBD oils on your health have been highlighted by studies and research.
For example, it has been widely confirmed that CBD oils are particularly useful in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Due to the way they trigger an opposite response of the receptors of your brain, they are a powerful anxiolytic.
Research from 2012 showed that CBD oils can also reduce the nerve pain and inflammation in rats. Unfortunately, there is still an unclear lack of similar studies performed on humans.
On the other hand, a recent study from 2017 highlights additional benefits of CBD oil on human body and health. In fact, nine healthy men showed a lower blood pressure in response to a stressful situation, when treated with CBD. In other words, the researchers found out that these oils can improve the way our heart pumps, reducing, among other things, the stroke volume.
On the other hand, there is still no evidence that CBD can treat health problems that are not caused by stress. This is, for example, the case of hypertension.
Last but not least, more recent research from 2018 highlighted the effect of Epidiolex on seizures. The CBD-based oil solution was used to treat children under the age of two affected by Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. These are both rare genetic disorders that cause terrible and even fatal seizures since the first year of life. CBD oils tend to interact with seizure medications, making them potentially more efficient. Nevertheless, CBD’s effectiveness in treating seizures has still not been confirmed and with no doubts need more research.
Are there any side effects of using CBD oils?
It would be a lie to affirm that you can only benefit from the use of CBD oils. In fact, clinical research has shown that often these oils tend to trigger some side effects. Still, the severity and type of them vary from one person to another.
For example, if you suffer from liver disease, you should use CBD oils with extreme caution. Besides, you may experience anxiety, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting as some of the most common side effects.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you must avoid CBD oils. Since they can pass through your placental barrier, they can jeopardise your baby’s development.
How can I use CBD oils?
The easiest way to use CBD oils is by using a weed pen. You can find e-oils that are rich in CBD and are thus specifically optimised to offer health benefits.
In this way, you can also have complete control over the formulas and the dose of CBD oils that you use every time. Through your dry herb vaporizer, you can rely on CBD-based formulas sold in pre-filled dosages.
What it’s clear is that, although the use of CBD oils should not replace any medicine, you can still get a sense of well-being thanks to CBD oils.
